DEMAND OF GOODS TRAIN FOR NIGHT PASSAGE IN SILIGURI RAISES IN MAHABIRSTAN

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 23^rd October, 2016: An age-old demand of plying all the goods trains through Siliguri town to be done only during the night avoiding the day time. The demand came from the business community of Mabirstan and Naya Bazar areas of Siliguri. It is a regular affair that during the passing of various goods train through Siliguri town station during daytime the rail gate remains closed and creating traffic problems of the businessmen from Mahabirstan and Nayabazar. According to Mr. Jai Prakash Saraf, the secretary of Mahabirstan Byabsayi Samity said that the goods trains are longer and take quiet sometime to cross the rail gate area. Hence during the time the traffic gets stopped. Nayabazar and Mahabirstan being the storage hub of Siliguri get entangled by traffic leading to huge traffic jams long after the trains’ passes away. It is interesting to say that though the flyover exists yet a majority of traffic including rickshaw, vans, two wheelers goes beneath the flyover creating more problems for the bigger loading vehicles to enter Nayabazar.
