JALPAIGURI DAY CELEBRATED IN THE NEW YEAR DAY

Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 01st January, 2016: New year day is also very much special for Jalpaiguri lovers. This is the day when this town was established in the British reign. In the year 1869, 1st January, this town was established by the Britishers in the form of a district. During that time the residents of the town comprised of only some handful families. There were various functions organized by some organizations like NGOs, social organizations, cultural organizations etc. Fruits and food packets were distributed to the hospital patients, sit & draw competitions were organized, cultural programs were also organized. However, an innovative activity was observed when the members of a social networking site assembled to organize a “Swach Bharat Abhiyan” drive in the heart of the town. Young boys and girls were seen cleaning the roads a mark of celebrating the establishment day of the town.
