Manasha Puja Becoming a Trend in Siliguri in its Celebration Spree

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 18th August, 2017: Amidst the uncertainty in and around Siliguri, the city celebrated the Manasha Puja with much fanfare. Over the years, this was more popularly known to be a part of rural Bengal.

However, it’s not anymore at the present moment. For the last 3 or more years or so this festivities is reaching and gaining popularity. Siliguri itself has seen a surge in its number and is increasing every year. Most of the puja is now limited to private organizing by a family or a joint family.

Some of the community Manasha puja is also springing up. One of the oldest puja of Siliguri is Suryanagar’s Barman Barir Puja. The puja is not less than 40 years according to one of the organizers. Traditional ritual, anjali, community prasad distribution, the dhak etc. all were part of this puja.

Today, the city has witnessed a grand Manasha Bisharjan. With Mahananda and Balason, the major rivers of Siliguri is already flowing high, the bisarjan went on without any problem. However, the interesting feature today was the Bisharjan Procession Manasha Puja.
