Webdesk, TNI Lataguri, 7th April, 2017: The Police today created pressure on the Environment Activists to remove their agitation in protest of tree felling for the Flyover construction over Lataguri’s Bichabangha Railway crossing. The activities today then started a peaceful demonstration in protest of cutting down trees of Lataguri Forest. Earlier the tree felling started with police protection but the environmentalists protested. Police immediately took 10 of the activists into custody. Later they were released in the evening. When they again made a sit-in demonstration the police removed their stage. During that time journalists were also prevented from covering the incidents. However, later in the day, Calcutta High Court gave a stay order in the felling of trees of the forested area. The activists started rejoicing soon after the stay order news came to the spot. The tree felling is now halted till Monday for the court hearing.
