War like Situation at Farakka Following a Class IX Girl’s Runover Death

Webdesk, TNI Farakka, 24th March, 2017: Today in a grievous incident at Farakka a school girl named Rumpa Haldar (17) was killed by a speeding truck on the National Highway. However, the situation worsened when hundreds of people attacked the police with sticks and stones.
In this incident, the IC of Farakka Police Station and three constables were injured. Literally, the police fled the police station during the attack. Private and NBSTC buses were set on fire by the crowd. Later CISF was deployed to take control of the situation. Local residents complained that the police were taking a bribe from the trucks while a truck ducked the police and tried to flee the spot.
The girl came under the truck but it did not stop. She was on her way to give Class eleven board exam in her school. They also alleged that after the run over the police took money from the truck and let it go. Immediately the crowd started pelting stones and damaged the vehicles around. Presently, the situation is under control. Police are yet to catch the culprits.
