IGNOU Siliguri Celebrates International Women’s Day in its Siliguri Campus

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 8th March, 2017: IGNOU Regional Centre Siliguri has celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ of the University today at its premises at Siliguri. Dr. Biswajit Bhowmik, Regional Director in this occasion mentioned about the initiation of IGNOU Siliguri Regional Centre in 2004 with 2500 learners. Today, the Regional Centre caters to the education needs of 17,000 learners in 7 districts of North Bengal (Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur). Almost half of the students are women. On this occasion, Prof. (Mrs) Subrata Nandi, Head, Department of Bengali, Siliguri College was the ‘Chief Guest’. In her address, Prof. (Mrs) Nandi deliberated on various issues of women and mentioned that without empowering women, a country can never prosper. She thanked IGNOU for celebrating the Day.
