Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 26th December, 2016: Today four trucks with signboards of NBDD (North Bengal Development Department) illegally carrying stone chips were nabbed by stone & sand traders of Jalpaiguri’s Goshalamore. Later the trucks were handed over to the police.
The Police have started an investigation into the incident. The OC of Jalpaiguri Sadar (Traffic Police) Mr. Saikat Bhadra told TNI over the telephone that investigation has already started and the police have interacted with the concerned department regarding the incident. For the last few days, the administration has suspended the loading of sand and stones from the rivers of Jalpaiguri.
This has also led to the loss of jobs of the laborers. However, a section of contractors is resorting to such kind of illegal acts. Some people even complain that a section of the officers of the concerned departments are associated with the illegal loading and transferring of the sand and stones from the rivers.
