3 DIES IN MURSHIDABAD MEDICAL COLLEGE FIRE, CID PROBE ORDERED

Webdesk, TNI Baharampur, 27th August, 2016: According to the last reports which came in at least 3 persons died and near about 18 injured in a major fire at Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital in the morning. An infant fell to the ground from someone’s hand in a bid to escape from the fire flames. However, he landed on the ground and got seriously injured. An Aaya named Mamoni Sarkar and a patient’s relative Smt. Paramita Ghosh was died in a stampede due to the terror associated with the fire. The huge rush created the situation more frightening. The injured included children, relatives of patients, hospital staff and others. Everyone is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Dr. Biswaranja Satpathy, Director of State Health Services informed TNI that the main fire broke out at the VIP air conditioned patient cabin, which was on the second floor of the building. The panic went throughout the building resulting in the huge rush. He also said that a probe has already been ordered to get to know about the cause of the incident. Later a CID probe was ordered by the State Government “to look into the possibility of sabotage” in the Murshidabad Medical College fire. A high-level committee was also constituted under the chairmanship of the principal secretary of the health department and comprising secretaries of another related department.
