KOLKATA’S 100 YEAR OLD TALA TANK IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE RENOVATION

Webdesk, TNI Kolkata 28th June, 2016: The heritage Tala Tank of Kolkata is under tremendous stress courtesy rusting and corrosion of pillars and tank walls all around. Gallons of water are wasted every day leading to the loss of KMC exchequer. Though the centre has already promised to allocate funds for its renovation yet the promise exist in verbal assurance only. This is the only ray of hope for the Kolkatans. Earlier a committee constituted of experts from Kharagpur IIT, Jadavpur University, Shibpur IIEST and Writers have made a survey for its cost of renovation.  The estimated cost of renovation is around Rs. 90 crores among which 35% will be borne by the state, 35% by the centre and the rest 30% by the KMC. Let’s hope that this 100-year-old heritage can get its old charm and grandeur from the time it is constructed.
