Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 6th June, 2016: Illegal cattle trafficking are on the rise. There are regular incidents of trafficking through Siliguri. However, the administration either pays less attention to the acts or they go unnoticed. However, yesterday night a truck full of cattle were caught at BBD Chawk of Siliguri by the Siliguri Police. The truck bearing the registration number WB59A5113 was heading toward Dinhata from Panjipara with at least 70 cows on board. The cattle were stuffed in such an inhuman condition that the animals could not even breathe. The vehicle was trapped by police under the leadership of inspector Dawa Sherpa. Two people were arrested soon after the seizure. Though the arrested driver and cleaner said they didn’t know anything. However, such comments were hard enough to believe. Since such a large herd was caught the Siliguri Police station didn’t have space to keep the cattle. Later they were taken to Goshala in its Salbari campus.
