Webdesk, TNI Kolkata, 16th September, 2015: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations or popularly known as ICSE will introduce ‘Live Ink Character Recognition’ (LICR) Solution tool in 2016 for a faster declaration of exam results with greater accuracy. In a press release, CISCE has revealed the information further according to the press release it declares that the LICR Solution is designed by Orion India Systems Private Limited. While examiners would use normal pens to evaluate answer scripts, they would use the LICR pen to fill in slots on the top sheet of answer scripts containing a summary of marks obtained. They would be required to write the individual marks obtained for each question as well as the total. The examiner would then click a check mark on the tab to verify the input. The LICR would then scan the entire top sheet and send it to the Council’s system. Once the checked mark is clicked via cloud computing, the scores for each question and the total marks obtained by a student will be stored in the Council’s cloud computing system. The council has already been successful in doing a pilot run of the system during the evaluation of ISC and ICSE 2015 exams. What was found is that this system can cut down the time taken to transfer accurately digitized marks to ICSE servers after the examiners complete their evaluation. It is totally error free to zero seconds.

The technology used for the purpose is not only secure but also requires no training for the examiners and will help the council make a detailed question by question performance –analysis of the results. The LICR works like any other pen. Therefore, the teachers will not require any special training to use it. In-fact, the technology will help us publish the results immediately after the answer scripts are evaluated. “The LICR Solution technology incorporates a repurposed digital pen and tablet to be used by examiners while evaluating answer scripts and would help publish results in shorter time period. While examiners will use normal pens to evaluate answer sheets, they will use the LICR pen to fill in slots positioned on top of each answer sheet page against each question” said ICSE chief executive and Secretary Gerry Arathoon.
