By Gargi Deb (TNI Jalpaiguri) ~ Edited By R. Subrata (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 31st August, 2015: Like previous other similar situations, the only Tea Auction Centre of Jalpaiguri is under water due to flood. All the online systems like Internet wires, Sockets, etc. used for tea auctioning has been spoiled due by the water. Due to incessant rains, Hakimpara area of Jalpaiguri Sadar is under water for two days. The auction center is located in this area. Just beside the center, the Karala River is overflowing. On the other hand, the ground floor of the auction center is 2 ft below the river level.
The area adjacent to the auction center is also 3 ft higher than the center. This has caused the drained water of those areas accumulate in the auction center. Moreover, at this situation, the pumping could not be initiated because the area surrounding the center is all in submerged state. The in charge of the Tea auction center Mr. Pratab Routh said that tomorrow an auction of at least 16000 made tea is supposed to take place, but looking at the situation its unlikely to happen. The total damage is estimated around Rs. 40 thousand. Similar views have been expressed by the secretary of North Bengal Tea Auction Committee Mr. Niranjan Basu.
