Webdesk, TNI Dooars, 26th August, 2015: On Wednesday night acting on a tip-off from a secret source, the forest officials of Diana Range raided an area called Laal-Jhamela Basti of Nagrakata Block. They recovered a full grown deer’s hide along with 10 kgs of deer flesh. Though it is not the first time such raid is conducted in the area. Sources said that earlier also such illegal poaching of deer was reported from this area. From the forest guards, it has been known that an underground poaching racket is very much active in this region.
Whenever wild deer used to enter this area from Bhutan or in the nearby forest they were killed by the poachers. This raid has confirmed such activities in the area. Mr. Subhash Chatterjee told TNI that the forest department got a tip-off that some people have killed a deer and have organized a feast with its meat in this area. The forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the deer hide and 10 kgs of flesh. However, the accused managed to escape before the raid. All the meat and the skin were destroyed and the samples of those were sent to Zoological Survey of India for further action. A massive search operation has been called to nab the culprits.
