He was the top 8 finalist from the entire India and even abroad. Times of North has interviewed Syed Mehfooz Mian, the director cum producer of the film Dance me meri “LAG Gayii”, who have cast the Siliguri lad Subhranil in his film. Here is the exclusive interview.

TNI: Welcome to Times of North. Can you please share something in detail regarding your upcoming movie?
Sayed: My upcoming movie Dance Me Meri “LAG Gayii” is obviously a dance based movie as the name suggests. Here we are portraying dance as a weapon to fight against poverty and other hurdles of life. This is a story of fulfilling wish by following the path of passion. Th film is being made under the banner of Samradhya Bhumi Film Production House.

TNI: We have come to know that veteran actor Mushtaq Khan is playing a critical role in the film along with others like Shashi Sharma, Shakti Kapoor, Raza Murad, Ahsaan Qureshi. Tell us regarding the choreography and music.
Sayed: Being director of a dance based film it was my first tough job to find out the choreographer. India’s Got Talent famous “Robot Man” Amardeep Singh Natt is the choreographer of the film and I must agree he has done a fabulous job. And dance without music can’t imagine. The music of the film is being directed by Zakir Hussain Sadani. I am sure that people will love the music but for that, you have to wait few days until the music is being released.

TNI: What is the reason behind such a title like Dance Me Meri “LAG Gayii”?
Sayed: Actually the movie is being presented in a comic way. All the difficulties of the key characters have been described as a balance so that, viewer don’t get emotionally down. And comedy plays a crucial role here.

TNI: Can you give us a hint regarding the storyline of the film?
Sayed: The film revolves around the key character Salman, a boy from a family which runs a very small roadside tea stall. His passion is dance. He is not ready to accept as it has come to him. He dreams of a life of prosperity. And he knows only dance can reach him there. Now please excuse, the rest I request you to enjoy in the hall.

TNI: Subhranil is playing an important role in your film. The entire region of Siliguri and North-East is waiting for some detail on his role.
Sayed: Yes I understand. Subhranil is playing the role of a young dancer. He is the close friend of Salman. There is nothing more to tell regarding Subhranil’s dancing skill. He has already proven himself. But I was really amused by his acting capability. He has done a splendid job.

TNI: The last question. Where from did you get the inspiration for making this film?
Sayed: See, on screen the film says about following your passion for reaching your dream. It portrays the power of dance and how it can offer a new life.  And in off-screen,  this film is providing the much-awaited platform for so many small town dancers. They don’t have any so-called ‘connection’ in industry. But they have talent. Somehow I wished to mix and match the reality with the story. And the result is Dance Me Meri “LAG Gayii”.

TNI: Thanks a lot for your precious time. And all the best wishes from Times of North team.
Sayed: It was entirely my pleasure and lots of love for the reader.
