28TH IGNOU REGIONAL CONVOCATION WAS HELD AT SILIGURI TODAY

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 8th August, 2015: The 28th Regional Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was being held today at 2 pm and continued upto 4 pm at IGNOU New Delhi in presence of the Chief guest Prof. Hari Goutam, former Chairman, UGC, is the Chief Guest and Prof. D.P. Singh Former Vice-Chancellor, Lucknow University. The Regional Convocation was held at Siliguri at Salesian College Auditorium. The students of IGNOU who completed their respective programs they were enrolled for during this year were awarded Degrees, PG Diplomas, Diplomas, and Certificates respectively. A total of 1, 91, 818 students all over India were conferred their respective Degrees. The credentials awarded at the convocation included 98 Ph.D. degrees, 25 M. Phil degrees, 47,198 Master’s Degree, 75,305 Bachelors Degree, 51,253 Diplomas and 17,939 certificates The figures, however, have gone down as against last year’s when 2.3 lakh students were awarded the degrees and diplomas.  Like previous years and the IGNOU tradition the main convocation held at IGNOU campus of Maidan Garhi, New Delhi was telecast live for the very first time on DD Bharti from the varsity’s Convention Centre in a webcast mode at Siliguri and other Regional Centers convocation venue. In Siliguri Regional center’s convocation, the Guest of Honour was Prof. Raghunath Ghosh, Former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Commerce and Law, NBU. A total of 342 students who registered their names received their Degrees in the venue and the rest 1947 learners will get their degrees in absentia.
