TNI News Service (TNS)

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 8th June, 2015: By considering the condition of the weather, especially in Gaur Bengal and South Bengal the West Bengal government on Friday extended the summer holidays in government-run schools by a week. The decision was declared by the Education Minister, Government of West Bengal Sri Partha Chatterjee. Following which many schools of the state have extended their holidays. However, there are exceptions. According to TNI sources some of the Government Aided schools especially in Siliguri region as well as in the Dabgram – Fulbari region have given the holidays to the students only. The teachers and the office staffs of those schools were kept out of the holiday ambit. According to an Assistant Teacher with the assurance of anonymity said “It’s just inhuman to keep us out of the extension of Summer Holidays that has been declared by the State Government. The heat waves are no less deadly to the teaching and non-teaching staffs than the students”. A retired Head Mistress told TNI over telephone that “For North Bengal extension of the summer holidays may not be too essential unlike that of Central Bengal and Southern Bengal. This part of the state till now cannot be considered as highly heat wave prone area”. Interestingly, according to the media sources the minister in a private conversation with the press said that the extended summer holidays is for all and not only for students.
