Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 5th June, 2018: On the World Environment Day 2018, Young Indians – Siliguri Chapter launched their program “Say No To Straws” to create awareness against single-use plastic straws. Plastic straws are one of the top-10 plastic pollution item worldwide and a big contributor to landfills and ocean pollution. Straws are used for less than 200 seconds on an average and stay on the earth for years. Every year, more than a million ocean animals die because of plastic pollution. World Environment is a day of everyone around the world to take ownership of their environment and to actively engage in the protection of our earth. With “Beat Plastic Pollution” as the theme for this year’s edition, the world is coming together to combat single-use plastic pollution. Yi Siliguri, through its program setup paper tents on restaurant tables asking patrons to refuse straws in their drinks. Yi gifted paper straws to these partner hotels to use in place of plastic straws. Dhaba by Amber & Amber The Vintage Bar, Hill Cart Road, Punjabi Khadai, Sevoke Road & Gourmet Central, City Centre are the four hotels in the city, where the program was launched on 5th June 2018. In the coming days, Yi will expand this program to many more hotels and restaurants across Siliguri. Please join us for reducing pollution, one straw at a time.
