Villagers Protest Arrests in Connection with Dhuguri Cattle Smuggling Murder Case

Webdesk, TNI Dhupguri, 28th August, 2017: Three people were arrested in connection with the murder of two youth at Dhupguri. It was alleged that the two was involved in animal trafficking. Later 5 more people were arrested in this regard the villagers and relatives of the accused today gheraoed the police station in protest of the arrests. However, the situation was known to the police before. As a result of which additional police force was called in for protection.
The IC of Dhupguri Police station was also present in the spot. The women, however, broke the barricade and marched towards the police station but were later stopped by the police. The villagers alleged that some innocent people were arrested by the police. Later 10 people from the villagers and police sat for the meeting. Police later agreed to give bail to 5 people. However, 3 were arrested. They were Dilip Mandal, Samiyar Rehman, and Manohar Sarkar. The accused were taken to police custody for 7 days. The Jalpaiguri Police Super said that a notification has been issued for the animal transaction should be completed within the day time.
