Social Forestry Program and Tree Felling going on Simultaneously at Falakata [VIDEO]

Webdesk, TNI Falakata, 19th July, 2017: Today at Falakata Khirarkot High School, the ‘Bonomahotsav 2017’ was inaugurated by Jalpaiguri’s Social-Forestry Department’s Forest Officer Mr. Kunal Banerjee. Along with him, there was the BDO of Falakata Smt. Smreeta Subba, the Forest and Land Commissioner of Falakata Panchayat Samity Mr. Panchu Gopal Saha, the Public Works Commissioner Mr. Suresh Lala, Women & Child Commissioner Smt. Sutapa Bhadra, Beat Babu of Social Forestry Department Mr. Dilip Ghosh and many others.
The program started with a rally, then there was a Sit and Draw competition, Plantation program and Plant distribution and lastly the prize distribution. On the other hand, the rhythm of the program just broke off when everyone saw that just adjacent to the school, big trees in the sides of NH 31 was pulled down mercilessly for road widening. When asked about this to Forest Officer of Social Forestry Mr. Kunal Banerjee. He said “I don’t know about this incident. However, this place where the plants are felled down doesn’t come under my area of operation. I look after Social Forestry. Maintenance of those trees comes under Forest Department. These two departments are different”.
