Farmers Block Road by Spreading Cucumbers at Dhupguri in Protest of Less Price

Webdesk, TNI Dhupguri 2nd July, 2017: The cucumbers are not fetching good prices this year at Dhupguri. In protest of this, the farmers have blocked the National Highway for 3 hours today. At first, the farmers blocked the market more area of Dhupguri then they moved on to the Chowpatty of Dhupguri and blocked the National Highway. The farmers spread the cucumber throughout the road to block it. It is alleged that the Mahajans are not giving more than Rs. 3 per kg of cucumber. This price did not make up the production cost. In protest of this, they blocked the National Highway. Police rushed to the spot for making the situation normal.

However, the stir intensified. Immediately a large contingent of Police arrived at the spot led by Jalpaiguri Deputy Police Super Mr. Bidyut Tarafdar. Long queues of long distance bus, truck and other vehicles were seen on the National Highway. Later the BDO of Dhupguri Mr. Dipankar Roy and Deputy Agricultural Officer Mr. Debasish Sardar intervened told that from now on the rate fixed during the morning will be maintained the whole day in the regulated market. This made the farmers lift the blockade. The fire brigade was called in to remove the cucumbers from the road for clearing the road.
