Webdesk, TNI Dhupguri, 30th June, 2017: Some wrong information is leading the drivers plying through the newly constructed SAARC road in a confused state while driving. The matter was observed in the private signboards of a Cement Manufacturing company erected at the sides of the SAARC Road. The distance written to traverse towards the definite points are wrongly written. The NHAI authorities have already started an investigation after getting the information from TNI.

The director of NH 48 Mr. Dipak Kumar Singh informed TNI that the matter is under investigation right now. It has been found that the distance from Dhupguri to Gairkata is written in the ‘SPEED KILLS’ signboard neMazarnakhali Majar Shariff as Birpara -63 Kms ahead and Hashimara – 44 Kms ahead. In reality, through that road Birpara is ahead of Hasimara from that point and Hasimara is far away from the written kms given in the signboard. In another signboard it’s written, Siliguri – 109 kms ahead and Jalpaiguri 45 kms ahead. However, after travelling just 3 kms ahead toward Dhupguri the next signboard shows Siliguri 85 kms ahead and Jalpaiguri 39 kms ahead. It shows a total reduction of 24 kms and 6 kms respectively just after travelling a distance of only 3 kms practically.

A local driver Tapas Roy told TNI that this has caused confusion among the drivers and also the passengers. Mr. Singh told TNI that there are no permissions given to any private company to make such milestones on their own. They have not asked for any permission for that also. When contacted with the company officials, they have told that the total matter is being done by the advertising vendors of the company.
