Webdesk, TNI Coochbehar, 23rd, June, 2017: At least 42 Volunteers of ‘Azad Hind Swechcha Sevak Parishad (Azad Hind Voluntary Council)’ were arrested by the Police when they shouted against them when they were asked to stop playing the loudspeaker in a Silence Zone area. The arrests were made by Kotwali Police Station. The incident happened near the Sagar Dighi area of Coochbehar when the voluntary organization played the loudspeakers for celebrating ‘Palashi Diwas’. The zone was already marked as Silence Zone and likewise, the on-duty police officers asked them to stop. However, it is reported that in retaliation the volunteers did not pay heed to them. According to the police, they even tried to misbehave with the officers. Later the Kotwali Police under the leadership of IC Samir Pal went to the spot and arrested 42 volunteers. It is to be noted that the area has been marked as a ‘Silence Zone’ by the then DM Dr. P Ulganathan for the sake of various government offices and the tourists. The people of the area seemed to be happy by the action of the police.
