Leopard Terror in Mainaguri Block, Trap Laid Without Bait
By Atish Sen (TNI Banarhat) | TNI Editing Siliguri
Webdesk, TNI Mainaguri, 22nd April, 2017: The Bethbaari and Jharuapara area of Mainaguri block are currently under a leopard threat condition. The locals informed TNI that for quite some time the domestic live stocks like goats, ducks, hens etc. are disappearing in a regular basis. They are suspecting that it is the handy work of any leopard or some wild animal. The villagers approached the Forest department for the same but due to the unavailability of animals the trap cage is laid but without any bait. In this regard, the Ranger of Ramsai Forest Range Mr. Man Bahadur Chettri told TNI that the villagers refused to give any goat for the trap. In this situation, the trap is laid but without any bait. Questions are raised to how the wild animal can be lured into the cage. He also said that the forest guards are regularly keeping a strict vigil in the village.
