IGNOU Convocation organized by Siliguri Regional Centre at Dinabandhu Manch

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 14th April, 2017: Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Hon’ble Minister of State for HRD (Higher Education), Govt. of India is the ‘Chief Guest’ for the Convocation at IGNOU, New Delhi which is being held today (i.e. 13th April,2017 from 3.00 – 5.30 P.M.). The Convocation is simultaneously held at 56 Regional Centres of the University through Webcast mode. At this convocation, 2,10,811 students all over India shall receive their Degree / Diploma & Certificates. Prof. Saktipada Patra, Banga Ratna,2017, Former Professor, WBES and Former Honorary Scholar, The British Council is the ‘Guest of Honour’ at Regional Convocation at Siliguri, being held today (on 13th April 2017) at Dinabanhu Mancha Auditorium, Siliguri between 3.30 P.M. and 5.00 P.M.
The programme at Siliguri started with inaugural song ‘Prabhat Sangeet’ sang by Shri Pritam Saha. At the outset, Dr. Biswajit Bhowmik, Regional Director welcomed all Guest and Degree recipients. 649 students have received their Degrees in person at the Convocation being held today at Siliguri. 2,374 learners will get their degrees in absentia. Thus, altogether 3,023 learners have got their degrees at Siliguri Regional Centre. Three (03) learners of IGNOU namely Ms. Mithu Sarkar, Sh. Mayukh Banerjee and Ms. Babita Dam who worked as e-Kranti Volunteers towards Digital Transaction Methods for Cashless Society, a project of MHRD, Govt. of India were felicitated at the Convocation at Siliguri for their good performance. Siliguri Regional Centre enrolls approximately 6000 students in different programs every year. It has a network of 22 Learner Support Centres in the Region. The Regional Centre has been playing a key role in expanding opportunities for quality higher education in the Region, especially to the disadvantaged population. Dr. Pravin Pralayanakr, Asstt. Regional Director proposed the ‘Vote of Thanks’.
