IGNOU Siliguri Celebrated its Foundation Day Today

Webdesk, TNI Falakata, 19th November, 2016: IGNOU Regional Centre Siliguri today celebrated the ‘Foundation Day’ of the University at the Regional Centre premises. Dr. Biswajit Bhowmik, Regional Director welcomed all the guests and highlighted IGNOU’s role in reaching to the unreached segments of the society in North Bengal. He mentioned that IGNOU Siliguri Regional Centre started its journey in North Bengal in 2004 with 2500 learners. Today, the Regional Centre caters to the education needs of 12,000 learners in 6 districts of North Bengal (Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur). On this occasion, Prof. Anindya Pal, Former Professor, Department of Geography and Applied Geography, University of North Bengal was the ‘Chief Guest’ and delivered the ‘Foundation Day Lecture’ on ‘Role of IGNOU in Promoting Higher Education in North Bengal’. In his address, Prof. Pal elaborated IGNOU’s role in democratizing higher education in India. He complimented Regional Centre Siliguri for making IGNOU popular in North Bengal. Academic Counselors, Coordinators of Study Centers, present and former students of IGNOU attended the program. On this occasion, an exhibition was organized at the Regional Centre premises highlighting IGNOU’s achievements.
