ILLEGAL SPIRIT BUSINESS AT SILIGURI’S ASHRAMPARA UNEARTHED BY CUSTOMS

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 20th October, 2016: In a house located at 14 No Ward of Siliguri Municipal Corporation a person named Shyamala Prasad was running his illegal business of raw spirit for quite some time. The godown was located at Ashrampara of Siliguri. Today Sub Inspector Mr. Nilotpal Haldar from Customs Department conducted a raid in the godown in the morning at around 11:45 am in association with Panitanki police outpost. The raid team has seized spirit worth around Rs. 2 lakhs from the spot.
However, the owner of the house Mr. Sandip Roy Choudhury could not show any rent agreement with the godown tenant Shyamala Prasad to the police. On the basis of SMC House Rent rules, since Mr. Roy Choudhury could not show any sort of rent agreement, so he was kept in custody. According to Mr. Halder, there was specific information to the customs department about the illegal trade in the area so the Department conducted the raid, by informing all the higher authorities. He also informed that the search is going on to nab the real culprits. Police when tried to contact with Shyamala Prasad over the telephone the person once picked up the phone and said that he is currently out of town. Later, no trace of Shyamala Prasad could be found.
