WOODEN DURGA PRATIMA THIS YEAR FOR SILIGURI SUKANTAPALLY’S BALAKA CLUB

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 5^th October, 2016: This year the Durga Idol of Siliguri 32 No. Ward Sukantapally’s Balaka club is made of wood. Another important feature of the Durga Idol is that the wooden idol is made by famous artist Nishit Gharami. TNI spoke to the Puja committee secretary Mr. Samir Nandi and Mr. Sukalyan Chakraborty, Jt Secretary of the Puja committee. According to him the main theme of the puja is based on rural Bengal’s folklore. Today at 7:30 pm the MIC tourism Mr. Gautam Deb inaugurated the puja pandal. The works were yet to be completed but the club officials assured that it will be ready before Mahasasti. Mr. Nandi said the budget, this time, is around Rs. 18 lakhs. Henceforth, this can be considered into the category of Blockbuster Puja of Siliguri. Tomorrow a clothes distribution ceremony will be held at the puja premises. Apart from this prasad distribution will also be held at Mahasthami. Mr. Nandi appealed to all the people of North Bengal to visit their puja pandal and motivate the puja committee to organize much bigger puja in the years ahead.
