Webdesk, TNI Gairkata, 02nd October, 2016: The Gairkata shopkeepers who were having their shops adjacent to the proposed AH 48 have already shut down their shops and also shifted them elsewhere. Since there are many turns in the road passing through Gairkata henceforth, the businessmen here are more affected by the AH 48 construction. Now they are worried about their future and also the upcoming Durga Puja. Repeated appeals of rehabilitation have fallen on the deaf ears of the administration. They are now thinking of full-fledged agitation. The total number of businessmen affected is around 150 in number. The secretary of Gairkata Byabshayee Samiti Mr. Ranjan Dutta said the compensation given by NHAI is so meager that it is incomparable to the damages they are facing. The main demand of the people from the administration is to construct a market complex for the affected businessmen. On the other hand, Smt. Noor Jahan Begam, the chairman of Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad said that they have already discussed the matter with the Byabshayee Samiti. Once the compensation is received the money will be used to construct alternative shops for the affected people.
