TEACHER ASSAULTED FOR SAVING PUJA PANDAL AT ISLAMPUR

Webdesk, TNI Islampur, 14th September, 2016: A school teacher at Islampur was brutally assaulted by some miscreants today in broad daylight. The family of the school teacher is very much terrified. The miscreants were still to be nabbed by the police though complaint had already been done immediately after the incident. The Islampur Nagorik Manch has stood beside the school teacher in this regard. Mr. Amal Chandra Das, a primary school teacher of Matikunda Primary School and a resident of Kshudirampally of Islampur was assaulted by the youths when he protested against them while they tried to dismantle the Durga Puja structure pandal structure made by a local club. Earlier the youths demanded not to organize any Durga Puja in the area. Later, when they tried to dismantle the structure Mr. Das came out and protested. More youths came from the nearby area and assaulted Mr. Das with a dagger that left Mr. Das bleeding profusely. His wife came running for his help but she and her daughter was also not spared and was beaten mercilessly. The commotion led other residents to jump on the youths. The youths then left the place by threatening to occupy Mr. Das’s house very soon. Mr. Mehdi Hedayatulla said that such acts of barbarism will not be tolerated in Islampur. He has expressed that the Police will take action against the culprits. The IC of Islampur Police Station said that the police have stepped up vigil in the area.
