NJP RAILWAY STATION AREA: AN IMPERFECT WELCOME FOR THE VISITORS

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 11th September, 2016: NJP is the gateway of Siliguri. However, the road condition towards approach road to NJP is in a bad shape for the last couple of months or maybe more. It has worsened more in the latest spate of the rainy season. NJP Railway station has become the hub of the major tourist destination as it has become the major railway junction in North Bengal. The Department of Tourism under the MIC of Mr. Gautam Deb is taking major steps by opening up of tourist spots. However, the initial impression of such an important railway station will definitely not send anything favorable for the tourism promotion here. Not only that illegal extortion in the name of the auto driver or Rickshaw driver welfare has forced the inbound vehicles like the rickshaw, toto, auto rickshaw not to enter the station premises and let the passenger get down at least 300 meters away from the station. Local shopkeeper Mr. Bipul Poddar said “I am here for the last 20 years but in the name of development the situation has worsened than the previous years. The potholed road, illegal extortion, gang wars have increased manifold. God knows when we will get a respite from all those things”.
