SILIGURI DISTRICT DEMAND GAINS MOMENTUM IN THE CITY

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 29^th August, 2016: The agitation in demand of Siliguri as a district is gaining momentum day by day. Today a rally organized by the front runner organization i.e. Brihottor Siliguri Nagorik Manch (BSNM). The rally started from Kanchenjungha Stadium and traversed areas like Hill Cart Road, Venus More, Court More and ended at Siliguri Court premises. A deputation was submitted to the SDO and the Siliguri Police commissioner. In this regard, the President of BSNM Advocate Mr. Sunil Sarkar told TNI that this is a part of the program taken last month of speeding up the agitation in demand of Siliguri District. According to BSNM, the entire Siliguri city is under two districts i.e. Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. Both the District HQs are far away from this place and the main important city of North Bengal is Siliguri. In such a circumstance the citizens especially the people staying in Bhaktinagar area have to travel 42 kms to Jalpaiguri for their administrative works, which is very much difficult. The demand of the Siliguri district is not a new one. Mr. Ratan Banik, the secretary of BSNM told TNI that the agitation will continue till the demand is not met.
