Webdesk, TNI Banarhat, 28th July, 2016: On Tuesday the management of Chamurchi Tea Estate issued a suspension of work notice and closed the ongoing works of the Tea estate. The reason cited was a lack of security in the garden and labor unrest. On Tuesday when the workers reached the garden they saw the notice hanging in the garden factory gate. By then they have realized that the management of the garden has left the premises in the darkness of the night. Subsequently, all the work process came to a halt.
Though the garden in not completely closed, yet the tea workers smell that this is the start of the complete closure process. All the 3 trade unions of the tea garden have conducted a gate meeting in protest of such kind of closure. On the other hand, the manager of Chamurchi Garden Mr. Aunup Pratap Singh said “There is complete failure of law and order situation in the garden. One of the residents of the tea garden attacked an assistant manager of the garden earlier. Many employees have given resignation. We felt that it’s impossible to take our lives in hand then work”. He also assured that if at all the law and order situation is restored in the garden then normal works of the garden will be resumed.
