JALPAIGURI: THE VENICE TOWN OF NORTH BENGAL SHUDDERS UNDER WATER
TNI News Service (TNS)
Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri 25th June, 2016: The Venice Town of North Bengal, Jalpaiguri is flooded. This has made the citizens run to nowhere. The ward under Jalpaiguri Municipality like 14, 15, 16 etc. is submerged under knee-deep waters for the last 24 hours. Mostly those have happened is due to the unscientific technique of covering the high drains as well as the creation of unplanned culverts. This has lead to water logging.
The deepening of Gadhadhar Khal is still going on at a snail pace and hence the water from high areas like Mashkalaibari, Aravinda Nagar came down to the main town. The MIC NBDD, Mr. Rabindranath Ghosh has already surveyed the works of Gadhadhar Khal but the monsoon has caved in immediately after that. So the work could not go on.
