TOURISM MINISTRY’S ‘SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP’ HELD AT SILIGURI TODAY

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri 14th June, 2016: In a move for intensifying the promotion of Homestay tourism of this region today the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India organized a ‘Sensitization Workshop’ along with the Department of Tourism, GOWB here in Hotel Sinclairs, Siliguri. The theme of the workshop was entitled “Incredible India Bed & Breakfast/Home Stay Scheme”. In the workshop the officials from the Ministry of Tourism, GOI revealed that the scheme will be applicable in some identified areas of the North Bengal’s tourism map. The people who have their house with minimum 6 rooms can apply for registration for home stays in the Incredible India’s web portal. The verified houses will be enlisted in the website. Along with this, the Department of Tourism, GOWB will also help the promotion of home stays. Here in this workshop, the chief guest was the MIC Tourism, GOWB Mr. Gautam Deb. The minister told the press after his address that such steps are taken keeping in view promoting the local tourism in the foreign markets because the foreign tourists prefer home-stays mostly in comparison to the hotel tourism. The Regional Director of Tourism Ministry, GOI Mr. J. P. Shaw said that the scheme is going to be started slowly from the plains to the hills and gradually the thing will be spread throughout the region. Mr. Samrat Sanyal, the executive president of EHTTOA, Mr. Raj Basu of Help Tourism was also present in the occasion.
