AGRICULTURE WORKSHOP ON NON-TILLED PADDY CULTIVATION HELD AT MAINAGURI

Webdesk, TNI Mainaguri 14^th June, 2016: Today in Falakata the MIC Agriculture Mr. Purnendu Bose advised the farmers that agriculture is not sectional, rather it’s a wholesome affair with all other food crops as well as grains. He said this in a workshop of Agriculture related to Paddy cultivation without tilling along with other modern technology of farming. The workshop was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Mainaguri Block here at Mainaguri Dharmasala. The workshop was inaugurated by the Minister himself along with him the other dignitaries present were, State Agriculture Officer Mr. Paritosh Bhattacharya, the MLA of Mainaguri Mr. Ananta Deb Adhikari and officers of the Agriculture Department of Jalpaiguri. The main discussion hovered around the technique of cultivating paddy without tilling. This kind of cultivation doesn’t need any seed bed for cultivating paddy saplings. This technique reduces time and effort and in return lessens the cost of production. The minister today also stressed upon cultivating associate crops in the same land like Lentil seeds in paddy, wheat fields is needed to keep the soil fertile. He also advised not to use a huge quantity of chemicals in the field but to give emphasis on cow dung fertilizer, vermicompost etc. The farmers and the other participants present in the workshop were mesmerized by seeing the Minister himself talking directly to the farmers. Later in the program, the agricultural officers also gave certain technical suggestions to the participants.
