DAY LONG LABOR AGITATION AT MORAGHAT TEA GARDEN AT DOOARS

Webdesk, TNI Banarhat 23^rd May, 2016: Today a protest demonstration was carried out by a section of laborers of Moraghat Tea Garden in front of the garden factory throughout the day. They were protesting against the termination of a woman tea worker by the management without citing any reason. At least hundreds of laborers mainly from 3 labor unions jointly staged the dharna. In the demonstration, there are other demands like nonallocation of labor quarters to the workers, who were working for more than 20 years, the absence of proper medical facilities, scarce rationing, the absence of fuel facilities, the absence of drinking water facilities, the absence of sanitary systems etc. The main problem between a woman tea worker, who have made a small room inside her old shack. The management wanted to hand it over to another worker. This had led to the trouble that ultimately ended in the termination of the woman tea worker. The tea workers have said if the terminated worker was not taken back then they would take the agitation to newer heights.
