Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 02nd January, 2016: if everything comes in the right places then probably there’s something to cheer for the Postal Savings Bank account holders of Siliguri. Siliguri might be getting its first India Post ATM machines right here in the city. Unconfirmed postal sources said that all preparations are ready and currently the preparation and installation of the first Postal ATM machine is going on in full swing. According to the source, the probable date would be around this year’s Republic Day i.e. 26th January, 2015. Earlier, the Government of India issued a gazette notification, which in effect amends the Post Office Savings Bank General Rules, 1981 and allows some specific Post offices which are part of the CBS (Core Banking Solution) network to issue ATM cards for their customers. Customers with ATM facility can use any other CBS enabled facility to withdraw or deposit money into their account. Hence, a Post Office Saving Account holder from Siliguri can visit the Post Office with CBS facility in Kolkata or Mumbai or New Delhi and use the ATM to withdraw money or deposit. As part of the massive IT modernization project of India Posts,  a sum of Rs. 4999 crore has already been allocated to increase the number of CBS connected Post Offices with ATM facility to 2800 locations by the end of the past year i.e.2015. Initiation of Siliguri Post Office’s ATM is a part of that project.
