ROBBERY ATTEMPT AT BANDHAN BANK IN SILIGURI

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 1st December, 2015: A major dacoity attempt was foiled by the immediate reaction of some customers of the bank and the bank employees in the wee hours today. The incident occurred at the loan branch of Bandhan Bank located at 31 No. Ward of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. According to the officials of the bank, a bank staff (Ms. Rinku Mandal) was carrying a bag of 5 lakh rupees from the main branch located at S. F. Road. Just when the employee entered the branch 3 of the dacoits, who were waiting for quite sometime went into the bank and tried to snatch the bag full of notes. Some customers of the bank jumped into action and got hold of the dacoits.
Instantly a scuffle resulted. In the scuffle, some other customers and bank employees joined in which terrified the dacoits and within moments they fled the spot in their white bolero parked outside. In this incident, a customer was injured. Later he was taken to the hospital for first aid. Soon after the incident questions have raised against the branch. The bank authority did not install any security system in the branch. Neither the branch has any security guard nor was any policeman deputed for the branch. On the other hand no CCTV system was there in the branch. Police officials i.e. Mr. Achinta Gupta, IC of Siliguri PS and Additional Police commissioner Mr. Pinaki Majumdar rushed to the spot. When asked about the security lapses by the bank the police said police would be inquiring in the incident and necessary steps would be taken.
Late Addition: Till the publication of the report at least one person was arrested from Fulbari area of Siliguri under suspicion of involvement in the incident.
