By Partha Chatterjee (TNI Raiganj) ~ Edited by R. Subrata (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Islampur, 28th November, 2015: Due to a sudden inflow of water in Tista Canal a situation of unseasonal rain has occurred in some villages of Sri Krishnapur area under Islampur block. Many hectares of land where the cultivation of Paan leaves, Tea, Pineapple, potato, paddy etc. were cultivated came under flood waters. The local farmers complained that suddenly in the rise of waters of Tista Canal the water entered their field and flooded the area. The area which was badly affected is Aluabari, Gobindopur, Barobigha, Subhashpally, Milanpally, Gobindapally etc. The farmers staged a road blockade at NH-31also in protest of the incident. A huge traffic jam occurred as a result. Immediately the police and other administrative officials rushed to the spot. Later with the intervention and assurances, the road blockade was removed.
