ROAD BLOCKADE AGAINST ROAD BLOCKADE IN CHAMURCHI

Webdesk, TNI Chamurchi, 27th November, 2015: Road blockade in protest of road blockade. Yes, everything is possible in India. This incident has occurred at Banarhat today when the truckers association at Banarhat staged a road blockade against the blockade created by villagers which stopped the truckers in lifting boulders from the river bed. The villagers have stopped the road to the river bed fearing disasters due to the unscientific lifting of boulders (though the lifters have obtained valid licenses from the administration) by the truckers. Local sources say that at least 5000 families are dependent on this profession. The villager’s blockade had left them jobless. In protest of this situation, Chamurchi Truckers Association has closed the India-Bhutan road. Later in the afternoon, the BDO of Dhupguri intervened and the blockade was lifted. In the evening the blockaders had a meeting with the BDO at the BDO Office for negotiating.
