CII INVITES BUSINESSES TO TAKE PART IN NORTH BENGAL BUSINESS SUMMIT

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 19th November, 2015: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) extended an open invitation to businesses in Bhutan to take part in the North Bengal Business Summit to be organized by the CII North Bengal Zonal Council in association with the West Bengal Government and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (WBIDC) on 30 November, 2015 in Siliguri. “The business community needs to expand its network not only for the development of the individual businesses but also for the growth of one’s own country and creating more employment opportunities”. Mr. Naresh Agarwal, Chairman, CII, North Bengal Zonal Council and Director of Advance Contractors and Engineers Pvt. Ltd. told to the group of over 55 business leaders representing different sectors at the Road show organized by CII in partnership with Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today. Mr. Agarwal also stressed on tourism potential, “We look forward to continuity with Bhutan for Indian Tourists. It would benefit the tourists if Samtse is open for day visits & overnight halts. If the same is facilitated for Phuentsholing upto Gedu & Chukha for overnight halts, will greatly benefit tourists who will plan their travel around the Dooars in West Bengal and Bhutan. “This is a Summit which was designed to promote cross-border businesses. Let us collaborate and prepare a common roadmap for mutual benefit,” said Mr. Agarwal, who led a CII delegation to Bhutan after the successful visit to Rangpur, Bangladesh on 1 4 November, 2015. “Since businesses from Bangladesh and Nepal will also be there at the Summit, it is an opportunity for businesses in Bhutan to join a platform they could identify fresh areas of co- operation and make some important groundwork for further development of their businesses.” Mr Agarwal also spoke of the State Government’s efforts to improve connectivity with the three neighboring countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal and also invited a delegation from Bhutan to join the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). Mr. Phub Tshering, Secretary General, Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stressed the need for deeper cooperation and coordination for the development of new industries in both countries. “We are witnessing a new generation of entrepreneurs who are educated, mobile and ambitious. That is all the more reason why it is necessary to take a structured approach for the overall development of businesses and realize the region’s economic growth potential.” In the interaction, joint potential in horticulture, nursery, animal feeds and pharmaceutical were also actively discussed. Investment in the hospitality sector through SAARC and other ventures also found mention in the meet.
