POLICE OFFICER ATTACKED FOR PROTESTING HOOLIGANISM IN JALPAIGURI

Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 14th November, 2015: An on-leave police officer was assaulted by some miscreants with stones. The victim Police officer is Mr. Atanu Chakraborty. He is currently posted at Barasat, Uttar 24 parganas. He came to his Jalpaiguri residence on leave during Kali Puja. The incident happened when Mr. Chakraborty was returning home last night. Some local miscreants attacked him with bricks and stones. He was seriously injured in his head after the attack but despite bleeding profusely he ran after the attackers and got hold of one of them and handed him to the police. Mr. Chakraborty was then rushed to the hospital by the neighbors. The problem started when Mr. Chakraborty resisted the betting and open drinking done by the local youths during Kali Puja. During that time the youth fled the spot but probably was waiting for the right time to take revenge. The name of the captured youth is Tanmoy Das. According to the IC of Kotwali Police Station Mr. Ashish Roy, a case of attempt to murder has been slapped on the youth and further search is going on to nab the other culprits.
