CLASHES AT ITAHAR FOLLOWING ENCROACHMENT OF A POND
By Partha Chatterjee (TNI Raigunj) ~ Edited by Pradiptamay Saha (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Itahar, 14th November, 2015: There was a clash between two groups at Taldungi village under Joyhat of Itahar block. Sources say that the clash happened between groups trying to capture a pond of the area. The seriousness of the clash can be realized to large extent because there were bombs exploded during the clash. Police picket has been installed to stop the violence. It is to be noted that this area has become a den of clashes with the primary reason of taking control of the land area in which the pond is also located. Local resident Md. Ibrahim said that his family owns the land and the pond for the last 30 years after it was bought from a trust called Radha Ballav Trust. The other faction lead by Abul Hussain said that Ibrahim has encroached the land illegally without any valid documents. Till now the situation is under control.
