Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 23rd September, 2015: Though the Met office has predicted that there would be a heavy downpour today, however, the citizens of Siliguri didn’t realize it to be such big. After a somewhat bright semi-cloudy day, Siliguri experienced a Nimbostratus attack in the evening resulting in heavy rains. It was from the afternoon, clouds tried to accumulate over the Siliguri sky for a dreaded attack on the city but the huge force was never predicted (like earlier instances) and the output was totally unexpected. Office returners were seen stranded under the thin balcony cover but were insufficient to protect them. Pre puja shoppers who had no option but to get drenched despite raincoats and umbrellas were probably thinking “Why today!!!!”. The most dreaded of them all is that entire Siliguri is currently under water within an hour.

Even high altitude areas like Bharatnagar, Bhaktinagar etc were not spared. Most of the ground floor of every household was under water. Floating sandals, bags were seen running down in a superficial stream of water passing through the streets of Siliguri. The rain seems not to stop which is making the problem more badly. Areas like Bidhan market, Mahabirsthan, Hill Cart Road, NTS more, Mallaguri, Champasari, Milanpally, Shaktigarh, Laketown etc. all went under knee-deep water. Mahananda and Panchanoi Rivers are flowing above the danger level. The residents of the surrounding areas may remain awake overnight fearing sudden river overflow. Overall, the unpredictable Nimbostratus attack in Siliguri made everything go haywire.
