He had been admitted with chest pain at BM Birla Hospital, Kolkata last week and had undergone a surgery. However, hospital sources yesterday said that he is in a stable condition and is responding to the treatments. However, in some sudden developments, he survived less than 72 hours of the heart surgery. “Mr. Dalmiya died of internal gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure,” hospital sources said, confirming the veteran cricket administrator’s death. The CAB sources further said that “At 6 p.m. in the evening his condition deteriorated and shortly afterward he suffered a massive cardiac arrest from which he could not recover.” West Bengal Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee expressed grief in the passing away of the BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, calling him a ‘giant’ amongst sports administrators. “Sad. Jagmohan Dalmiya ji passes away. He was a giant amongst sports administrators, a true lover of Bengal. On my way to pay my respect. RIP,” Ms. Banerjee tweeted. “We will give him [Jagmohan Dalmiya] a state honor. He was an asset,” she said. Mr. Dalmiya is survived by a daughter and a son.
