SILIGURI ATM THEFT AGAIN RAISES ATM SECURITY QUERIES

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 11th September, 2015: In similar incident happened earlier in Coochbehar last week the dacoits today absconded with an entire ATM device comprising of around Rs. 5 lakhs of cash. The incident believed to be happened to take place in around 2 am yesterday according to the local sources. The same looting team was chased by the Night Police patrolling van while trying to loot another ATM in Eastern Bypass area. They left away from their vehicle an Innova car with an Assam Vehicle registration number. A vault of the looted ATM was also found in the car. The incident came to light in the morning when the police already were there in the spot for investigation.

The Police commissioner Mr. Manoj Verma assured the press that Police is taking the matter with all seriousness and a special investigation team is formed for more thorough analysis. He also clarified that the possibilities of any link with the Coochbehar incident are also taken seriously. In both the attempts of ATM thefts, the common factor was the absence of security in the ATM machines. Several other incidents related to ATM burglary lead to some banks and security organization increase in the number of security personnel for some time and then the situation becomes back to square one again.
