DR. ANUPAM SEN: A LIFE TO BE REMEMBERED
By Gargi Deb (TNI Jalpaiguri) ~ Edited By D. Prasun (TNI Siliguri)
Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 09th September, 2015: Dr. Anupam Sen has left us yesterday. The vacuum can’t be filled anyway. However, on this occasion, we can look back to his life as ‘a life to be remembered’. He was born in Bikrampur, Dhaka in the year of 1927. He has been meritorious from his early days of life. Dr. Sen was the first batch student of legendary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. In 70′s when Siddhartha Shankar Ray was the Chief Minister of West Bengal, he was offered to be the Health Minister of the state. However, he refused that for the sake of his dedication towards needy patients. He was truly a godlike figure for the poor. He started his practice with a visit of Re. 1 and gradually it rose to Rs. 5. However, it has been found that, in most of the cases when the patient is economically week, instead of taking visiting fee he himself helped them with medicines and sometimes even with monetary assistance. He was elected four times as MLA. This year Dr. Anupam Sen has been awarded ‘Bangaratna’ too. Today his funeral works were completed with grief at Maskalaibari Burning Ghat, Jalpaiguri. Mohan Bose, Chairman of Jalpaiguri Municipality; Ex-MP Manik Sanyal and Minati Sen, Secretary of state wing of TMC Kalyan Chakraborty, District President of Congress Nirmal Ghosh Dastidar were present to pay homage to the great personality.
