GORKHA SACRIFICE DAY FOR NATIONAL FREEDOM OBSERVED AT KALIMPONG

Webdesk, TNI Kalimpong, 25th August, 2015: In order to mark the day when Durga Malla, the Gorkha freedom fighter was hanged to death by the British’s (25th August 1944) Bharatiya Gorkha Parisang (BGP) organized 11th Sacrifice day (Balidan Diwas) in town hall today. The troupe visited and garlanded all the statues of the freedom fighters implanted in the town, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the Shaheeds, a moment of silence was also observed by the people present there. All the 90 forgotten Gorkha freedom fighters were named in reverence of their bravery and sacrifice. Meanwhile, a power point presentation of Durga Malla was shown in town hall which was followed by a short documentary of the same. Students from different schools turned up to watch and know about the local freedom fighters that are not yet included in the academic textbooks. On the other hand, students gave informative speeches about the life history of different Gorkha freedom fighters such as Lal Badhur Basnet, Ravi Lal Bhujel, Dal Badhur Giri and Thakur Prasad Kumar. P.K Pradhan, the zonal and the regional secretary of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisang later said that the students have to know about the history of the Gurkha fighters, ‘We will make a point to show the power point presentation and the documentary to every school’s said, Pradhan.
