Webdesk, TNI Banarhat, 19th August, 2015: Tension was created today when a group of 39 elephants from a herd entered Banarhat populated area. The elephant group came from Moraghat forest in search of food and was traversing areas like Haldibari, Moraghat, Gendrapara Tea Gardens and their adjoining areas. The elephants took shelter in the tea garden adjoining to the Banarhat electric substation. Earlier the group was also seen to stand for a long time near Kolabari area of Banarhat. After getting the information the forest guards and officials rushed to the spot from Binnaguri Forest Range. The forest guard took positions and guarded the animals to prevent any sort of untoward incident between the humans and the elephants and ultimately the guards guided the elephants to the nearby forest. No casualties in terms of life and properties took place in the incident. The road between Kolabari and Banarhat got stuck because of the elephants. The forest warden Smt. Sima Choudhury told TNI that the elephants took more time to move because of the presence of baby elephants in the herd. The Forest Ranger Mr. Dilip Das Choudhury told TNI that a total of 35 full grown elephants and 4 cubs were there in the group.
