Webdesk, TNI Jalpaiguri, 17th August, 2015: Today in a bid to maintain the population of fish growth many fish spawns were laid in the rivers of North Bengal especially Jalpaiguri region by the Department of Fishery, Government of West Bengal. The rivers where this exercise was done were Karala, Diana, and Tista. The fish spawn, which was let off were Common Rohu, Special Brahmaputra Rohu, Katla, Mrigala etc. The Fishery Department officer in Jalpaiguri Mr. Partha Pratim Das said that in every river, at least 14 bags of fish spawn was let gone. In each bag at least 1400 spawns were present. According to the North Bengal Region Officer of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Uttam Panja, the reproductional growth is showing a fall in the number of fish population in this river. For that reason, the fish spawns were laid. More fish spawn will be let off in at least 9 rivers of Jalpaiguri and 5 rivers of Alipurduar district in the next two days.
